I feel that the actions of this doctor Howard Levy could be considered insurance fraud but are at best questionable. I received a bill for an 'extended visit' and x-rays, after I had a brief consultation with him, which only lasted as long as he asked me questions and continued it. On meeting with the doctor, I told him that the back issue I was having was really a muscle issue and that I believed I was supposed to be referred to a physical therapist, and that I did not believe I was in the right place, and that it was not a spinal issue. Being that they told me my visit was covered, when he asked to do an x-ray anyway, I eventually acquiesced. I called them, explained this to the billing department, who said 'if my visit was more than 30 minutes hten that is why it was an extended visit' - it seems to me that he ordered this just so the bill could be $625, knowing that I wasn't asking for those services and didn't think they were appropriate. Then she said as long as I actually received the treatment, I would have to speak to 'customer relations' and transferred me, which ends up just being the mian line, which no one answered (went to voicemail). Unethical. Will be looking into what boards or other places I can lodge a formal compaint. Paying the $50 portion I am responsible for, not about the money, but it is a slap in the face to bill when I was told there should be no bill for services I didn't want.
