Firestone Complete Auto Care at 1776 Howell Mill Road Northwest, Atlanta, Georgia.

Misdiagnosed problem, quoted a significant overcharge, and left car in state of disrepair upon returning it. I took a car here because my AC wasn't working properly -- it was not cold at idle but would work when the car is in motion. I'm not an expert in AC systems (which is why I took it to a shop) but I know enough to know that this typically doesn't mean the whole system is broken and needs to be replaced.

When they quoted $1600 and stated the entire condenser needed to be replaced I was skeptical. I took it to an AC specialist shop for a second opinion where they told me that the only problem was the filter for the receiver dryer was clogged and needed replacement, but the rest of the system was fine. In other words, replacing the condenser wouldn't have even fixed the problem. Additionally, they told me that all of the coolant in the system had been drained and that there were multiple caps missing for parts that Firestone left off! Luckily this did not cause additional damage.

Now one of two things must be true in this scenario. Either Firestone is staffed by techs who aren't very good at their jobs, or they are deliberately trying to overcharge people for unnecessary work. I'm thinking both are probably true.
